Israeli authorities have initiated an inquiry after surveillance footage revealed a Border Police officer launching a stun grenade into a parked vehicle in the occupied West Bank.
The event transpired within the Palestinian refugee camp of Qalandia. The video depicts the officer approaching the vehicle, shouting at those inside before tossing a stun grenade through the open door, quickly shutting it as the driver attempts to pull away.
Moments later, the grenade detonates inside the car, filling the interior with smoke.
The recording captures two passengers escaping the vehicle from the other side immediately following the explosion. As they flee for safety, the officer appears to discharge his weapon in their direction.
Israeli human rights organization B'Tselem confirmed that all individuals in the vehicle managed to survive the ordeal.
Israeli police reports indicate that the officer's actions deviated from standard protocol.
The matter has been forwarded to the internal police investigation unit to scrutinize the officer's behavior.
In a different incident in Qalandia on Sunday, it was reported that Israeli forces fatally shot a 16-year-old boy, Walid Abu Sneineh, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
Additionally, two other minors were reported to have sustained gunshot injuries to their limbs during the confrontation.
Israeli officials stated that their forces reacted to immediate threats posed by a violent disturbance, which included a barrage of stones directed at them.
They assert that their troops opened fire on an individual allegedly throwing stones from a rooftop.
On the same day, a four-month-old infant named Ahmed Zaid tragically passed away after allegedly being delayed in receiving critical medical treatment due to Israeli troops blocking access to his village near Ramallah.
Ajith Sunghay, head of the local UN human rights office, reported that an ambulance was waiting at the gate in Deir Ammar to transport the child for urgent care.
Sunghay described the incident as "senseless," stating it reflects the disregard of an occupying power for the rights and humanity of Palestinians.
The Israeli military has denied these claims, asserting that its personnel allowed the baby and his family to pass without obstruction for continued medical assistance.
The investigation into the stun grenade incident remains ongoing, while the troubling occurrences in Qalandia have intensified scrutiny amid rising tensions in the West Bank.
