A spectacular snow corridor with towering walls has reopened in Aomori Prefecture, drawing visitors to one of Japan’s most iconic winter attractions. The route, known as the Hakkoda-Towada Gold Line, was cleared after a four-month closure, revealing massive snow walls reaching heights of up to eight meters.
The corridor stretches across an 8-kilometer section of National Route 103, connecting Aomori City’s Sukayu area to Towada City’s Yachi area. Snow removal operations began in late February, carving out a dramatic pathway that allows vehicles to pass through the towering white walls.
Tourists visiting on opening day were seen capturing photos and enjoying the unique experience of walking alongside the giant snow formations. Many described the scene as breathtaking, with some expressing surprise at the sheer height of the snow walls.
Officials noted that warmer-than-usual temperatures this year may cause the snow corridor to melt earlier than expected. Visitors are encouraged to plan their trips soon to witness the snow walls at their peak size before they gradually shrink with the changing season.
