The Jordanian military reported on Thursday that its air defense systems successfully intercepted and eliminated eight missiles that were launched from Iran toward Jordan.
An official statement confirmed, "Today, eight missiles were intercepted and destroyed by Jordanian air defense systems after being launched from Iran."
Although missile fragments fell into Jordanian territory, fortunately, there were no reported casualties or damage.
Jordan's military reiterated its stance that "no entity will be permitted to encroach upon Jordanian airspace."
In statements, Iran's Revolutionary Guards asserted that the missiles were aimed at a US "command and control center in the Middle East and a military base in Al-Azraq, Jordan."
It was reported that Iran launched a total of 10 ballistic missiles towards the target.
The Revolutionary Guards further threatened that "if the US military continues its aggression, other bases in the region will also be at risk from our substantial firepower."
These missile attacks were part of a continuing series of military engagements between Iran and the United States over the past two days.
The exchanges included multiple US strikes on Iranian positions, intensifying the existing tensions related to the crucial Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier that day, government spokesperson Mohammad al-Momani stated that air raid sirens were triggered when missiles from Iran entered Jordanian airspace.
He confirmed the interception took place after the missiles breached the airspace.
This incident marks the first interception of Iranian missiles reported by Jordan since June 11.
On that occasion, the Jordanian military intercepted 20 missiles following claims from the Revolutionary Guards that they targeted a US command center in Jordan.
Al-Azraq hosts a Jordanian air base where forces from the US, Germany, Belgium, and France had previously operated against ISIS.
Jordan maintains it does not host foreign bases but acknowledges the presence of limited military personnel under cooperation agreements.
In April, the Jordanian military asserted that 281 missiles and drones launched from Iran had targeted the kingdom since the onset of the Middle East war on February 28.
Out of these, 261 were reportedly intercepted successfully, with 30 individuals injured, all of whom have since been discharged from medical facilities.
