A U.S. judge has temporarily stopped a rule made by former President Donald Trump that tried to block international students from coming to Harvard University.
The rule was announced on Wednesday, but just a few hours later, Harvard filed a lawsuit saying the rule was unfair and illegal. They believe it was done to punish Harvard because the university didn’t agree with what the White House wanted.
On Thursday, the judge agreed to pause Trump’s rule for now. Harvard said the government was trying to go around an earlier court decision with this new rule. They also said international students are a big part of the school’s research and success.
This is the latest time the Trump administration has tried to make things harder for one of the country’s oldest and richest universities, where about 25% of students come from other countries.
