Kajol Explains Why Acting Is More Demanding Than a 9-to-5 Job

Kajol Explains Why Acting Is More Demanding Than a 9-to-5 Job

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Actor Kajol recently stirred online debate after saying that actors work harder than people with regular 9-to-5 jobs. The comment, made during the second episode of her chat show Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle featuring Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan, faced criticism on social media platforms like Reddit, with some viewers calling it “tone-deaf.” Kajol has now explained her perspective, emphasizing the unique challenges of the acting profession.

Kajol described the intense pressure on film sets. “It’s a very on-the-ball kind of job. When you’re shooting, you have to be 100 percent focused. For about 35 to 40 days of shooting, you must maintain your body, eat right, and ensure your appearance matches costumes and scenes. Even small changes can affect your look, which is a huge pressure,” she explained.

Kajol also highlighted the constant scrutiny actors face compared to office jobs. “In a 9-to-5 job, you can take breaks or relax. As actors, we are constantly observed — how we sit, cross our legs, smile, or even move. Every action is noticed. It’s like being a kettle that’s always boiling; you are always alert and slightly paranoid,” she added, emphasizing the physical and mental demands of acting.

Kajol’s recent work in 2025 includes the mythological horror film Maa, the digital talk show Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle on Prime Video, and the film Sarzameen starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Prithiviraj Sukumaran, released directly on JioHotstar. She also recently won her seventh Filmfare award, shared with Shah Rukh Khan.

Kajol’s clarification sheds light on the intense work schedules, mental pressure, and constant public scrutiny that actors face, distinguishing the profession from conventional office jobs.
