The Indian film industry mourns the loss of Kamini Kaushal, a legendary actress who left an indelible mark on Bollywood, as she passed away at her Mumbai home on Thursday night at the age of 98. This news was shared by family associate Sajan Narain, who noted that Kaushal was set to celebrate her 99th birthday in February. The exact cause of her passing is yet to be revealed, and a formal statement from the family is anticipated soon.
With a remarkable career spanning over seven decades, her passing signifies the end of an era in Hindi cinema. Kaushal debuted in Chetan Anand’s groundbreaking film ‘Neecha Nagar’ (1946), which won the prestigious Palme d’Or at Cannes, catapulting her to prominence as one of the highest-paid actresses of her time.
She quickly became one of the industry's cherished figures, starring in iconic films such as Aag, Shaheed, Ziddi, and Nadiya Ke Paar, and collaborating with Bollywood legends like Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand. Her impressive filmography includes titles like Do Raaste, Heer Raanjha, and her last appearance in Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha.
Following her death, numerous actors took to social media to express their heartfelt condolences. Kiara Advani, who shared screen space with Kaushal in Kabir Singh, honored her influence by posting a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, stating, “Working with you was a privilege. Your grace and talent left a timeless imprint on our industry. Rest in peace, Kamini Kaushal Ji.”
