Audiences will be able to stream Rishab Shetty’s latest epic — Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 — when it arrives on Amazon Prime Video on October 31, less than a month after its theatrical opening on October 2. Written, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, the film features Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah and Jayaram, and will be released on the platform in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.
Prime Video’s announcement on Monday sparked a flurry of online conversation. The streaming service shared a brief, high-energy teaser that hinted at the film’s raw intensity, showing Shetty’s character Berme preparing for conflict alongside his followers and setting an expectant tone for the release.
The OTT reveal also prompted questions among viewers, many noting the absence of a Hindi track and remarking on the film’s swift move from cinemas to streaming. One common reaction pointed out that launching a Hindi version could broaden the film’s reach, while others flagged the 29-day window as unusually short.
Set against the backdrop of the Kadamba dynasty, Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 delves into the origins and mythologies of the Panjuluri Daiva, Guliga and Chavundi deities, acting as a prequel to the 2022 cult hit Kantara. Backed by Hombale Films, the narrative further examines the intertwined relationship between people, nature and religious practice.
On the film’s cultural roots, Rishab Shetty said the project is born of local traditions and reverence for the land: the story honours rituals and beliefs drawn from real customs, he added, with every emotional beat rooted in lived practice.
Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 has enjoyed extraordinary box-office returns, becoming the top-grossing Indian release of 2025 with around ₹813 crore worldwide within 25 days, overtaking Chhaava’s ₹807 crore total. Shetty thanked viewers for their response and said streaming on Prime Video should help the tale travel to new audiences.
In a notable cross-platform rollout, the film will also open in English in theatres globally on October 31, aligning its international cinematic release with the OTT premiere.
With its mix of folklore, striking visuals and emotional storytelling, the film is expected to attract significant streaming viewership. For fans eager to revisit Berme’s world at home, October 31 marks the next chapter in the film’s journey.
