After a period of mourning for her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, singer Kelly Clarkson made a triumphant return to performing. The 43-year-old artist kicked off her Studio Sessions residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, on Friday night, marking her first live appearance since the heartbreaking news.
Despite the sadness surrounding her hiatus, Clarkson was in high spirits, engaging energetically with her fans. The audience was treated to her classic humor and authenticity as she shared light-hearted banter throughout the evening.
During the concert, the Grammy-winning vocalist made a memorable night for two couples in attendance. One couple, visiting from London, received a playful nudge from Clarkson to propose onstage. When the boyfriend hesitated, she humorously urged, “Say, ‘yes,’ bitch!”, earning a wave of laughter and cheers.
She eventually addressed another couple celebrating a decade of marriage, joyfully exclaiming, “You made it a decade? F**k yeah, look at that!” Clarkson even offered to oversee a vow renewal, asking, “Do you both promise to keep dancing through life together? For another 50 or 60 years? Aim high!”
Originally planned for August 2025, Clarkson’s series of performances was postponed following the diagnosis of her former husband, Brandon Blackstock, with cancer. Tragically, Blackstock passed away on August 7, prompting Clarkson to prioritize her family and take a step back from her performances.
A day before his passing, she shared a touching message, stating:
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them.”
She also expressed her regret to fans for the postponement, promising that she would return when she was ready.
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock were united in marriage from 2013 until their divorce in 2022. Beyond being her spouse, Blackstock had a significant role in managing Clarkson’s career. They share two children and, despite their separation, have maintained a cooperative co-parenting relationship.
Though Clarkson has refrained from sharing her personal feelings regarding Blackstock’s passing, insiders reveal that she's taken this time to privately heal. Consequently, she also missed several episodes of The Kelly Clarkson Show earlier this year.
Her return to the Las Vegas stage is more than just a musical milestone; it represents her strength and commitment to her fans. Renowned for her powerful voice and genuine personality, she effectively channels her emotions into impactful performances.
With her Studio Sessions residency, which continues to receive rave reviews, Clarkson has scheduled three more shows this month. Her ability to blend vulnerability with exuberance has enchanted fans, creating a genuinely uplifting experience.
