North Korea has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining nuclear weapons, with leader Kim Jong Un declaring that the country’s nuclear status is “irreversible” and will continue to be strengthened.
Speaking at a key parliamentary session in Pyongyang, Kim emphasized that nuclear capabilities are central to the nation’s defense strategy. He stated that North Korea will further expand its nuclear deterrence and resist what it described as hostile forces.
Kim also issued a strong warning to South Korea, announcing plans to officially designate it as the “most hostile state.” He warned that any actions perceived as threats would be met with a “merciless” response, signaling a sharp escalation in rhetoric between the two nations.
The remarks come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, including increased military activities by the United States and its allies in the region. Kim criticized these actions, accusing Washington of aggression and destabilizing global security.
Despite diplomatic efforts by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung to reopen dialogue, Pyongyang has largely dismissed such overtures, maintaining a firm stance on its defense policies.
Experts suggest that North Korea’s continued focus on nuclear development reflects concerns over global conflicts and security threats. The country is believed to possess dozens of nuclear warheads and has made significant advancements in missile technology, including solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missiles.
The latest statements highlight growing uncertainty in regional security, as tensions on the Korean Peninsula remain high with little sign of immediate diplomatic resolution.
