KK Court Orders Mental Check in Murder Case

KK Court Orders Mental Check in Murder Case

Post by : Shakul

A court in Kota Kinabalu has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for a 71-year-old man accused of murdering and dismembering his ex-fiancée. The directive was issued as part of ongoing legal proceedings in a case that has shocked the local community.

The accused, identified as Piluta Samad, has been instructed to undergo a 30-day mental observation at Hospital Mesra Bukit Padang. The order was granted by the magistrate following a request from the defence team, which raised concerns about his mental condition based on his behavior and statements.

According to the defence counsel, there is a need for a thorough psychiatric assessment to determine the accused’s mental state. The court also allowed for a possible extension of the evaluation period by another 30 days if required.

The prosecution opposed the application but informed the court that key reports, including a chemist’s analysis and post-mortem findings, are still pending. These reports are expected to play a crucial role in the case as investigations continue.

Piluta Samad is accused of killing his 44-year-old ex-fiancée in February 2026 at a residence in Kampung Sri Kenangan. The case gained widespread attention after parts of the victim’s body were reportedly discovered in separate locations.

The charge has been filed under Section 302 of Malaysia’s Penal Code, which carries severe penalties, including the death sentence or long-term imprisonment. If convicted without capital punishment, the accused may also face caning.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for May 15, 2026, while the accused remains in custody. The case will later be transferred to the High Court, where formal plea proceedings will take place.
