After a hiatus of more than three years, Gabriel Landeskog finally netted his comeback goal. The captain of the Colorado Avalanche showcased his skill during a solid 4-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks in Denver, bolstered by the support of an enthusiastic crowd. His goal came midway through the second period when he deftly tapped in a rebound, marking a triumphant return.
The Avalanche continued their winning streak, securing their fourth consecutive victory and their sixth in the last seven games, placing them atop the NHL standings with 27 points. Their performance displayed confidence and dominance, reaffirming their strength in the league this season.
Right from the first drop of the puck, Colorado made its presence known. Just 28 seconds into the game, Artturi Lehkonen fired a powerful one-timer from the right circle to put the Avalanche ahead following a turnover from Anaheim. Nathan MacKinnon was instrumental in the play, assisting Lehkonen’s goal.
Nathan MacKinnon continued to demonstrate why he's one of the league’s elite, providing three assists in this match and extending his point streak to ten games. With a total of 32 points, he now holds the highest scoring rank in the NHL.
The Ducks managed to respond late in the first period when Leo Carlsson evened the score at 18:16, thanks to a setup from Jacob Trouba. This goal marked Carlsson's 11-game point streak, underscoring his growing influence on the Ducks’ offense. Despite recent success, the Ducks struggled against the Avalanche’s resilient defense.
Outstanding goaltending was a highlight of the match, with Colorado's Scott Wedgewood stopping 35 shots to secure the win, while Anaheim's Lukas Dostal made 32 saves under pressure, keeping his team competitive throughout the game.
Landeskog's significant moment came in the second period when he scored from right in front of the net after a rebound from a Valeri Nichushkin shot. This marked his first goal in the regular season since March 5, 2022, drawing loud cheers from fans, especially after two disallowed attempts earlier in the season.
The Avalanche extended their lead early in the third as Martin Necas redirected the puck during a power play at 7:02, further cementing their reputation as a formidable team during man advantages.
With under four minutes left, Anaheim pulled their goalie for an additional attacker, but Parker Kelly sealed the 4-1 win with an empty-net goal at 17:39. This capped off a game that highlighted Colorado’s teamwork and strategic prowess.
This victory keeps the Avalanche firmly at the top of the NHL rankings, showcasing a potent offense, reliable defense, and strong leadership from players like MacKinnon, Lehkonen, and Landeskog. Their chemistry and momentum are escalating, positioning them as serious contenders for this season's playoffs.
