Latest 2025 Visa Rules for Indian Travelers Visiting Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore

Latest 2025 Visa Rules for Indian Travelers Visiting Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore

Post by : Anis Farhan

Southeast Asia made easier

In 2025, travel between India and Southeast Asia is more popular than ever. With improved flight connections, stronger diplomatic ties, and growing tourism, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore have updated their visa policies to make access easier, faster, and more convenient for Indian passport holders. Whether you're planning a quick holiday, a business trip, or a longer exploration, here’s everything you need to know about the latest visa rules for these three countries.

Thailand: Visa-free travel returns in 2025

30 days without a visa
Thailand reintroduced its visa-free entry policy for Indian nationals in early 2025 after a successful trial in 2023–24. As of now, Indian travelers can enter Thailand visa-free for up to 30 days if arriving by air or land.

Key points:

  • No visa required for tourism visits of 30 days or less.

  • Entry points include all major international airports (Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai) and land borders.

  • Must show proof of onward travel and sufficient funds (approx. THB 20,000).

  • This visa exemption is single-entry only; for multiple visits, reentry is required.

For longer stays:

  • You can apply for a Tourist Visa (TR) at the Thai Embassy/Consulate for 60 days (extendable by 30 days in Thailand).

  • Visa fee for TR is approximately ₹2,500.

Pro tip:
Ensure your passport has at least 6 months’ validity and one empty page. Travel insurance, while not mandatory, is strongly recommended.

Malaysia: eVisa simplifies entry for Indians

E-visa in 48 hours
Malaysia currently does not offer visa-free access to Indian citizens, but it provides a highly efficient eVisa and eNTRI system. In 2025, these systems have been further streamlined for quicker approvals and mobile accessibility.

Two main options:

  1. eNTRI (Electronic Travel Registration and Information):

    • Valid for 15 days single-entry only.

    • Fee: ₹1,500–2,000.

    • Processing time: Within 48 hours.

    • Must enter Malaysia via air from India, Singapore, Thailand, or Brunei.

  2. eVisa (Tourist Visa):

Documents required:

  • Passport (6 months validity)

  • Passport-size photo

  • Return flight tickets

  • Proof of accommodation

  • Travel itinerary

  • Financial proof (bank statement showing RM 2,000+)

Important note:
In 2025, visa-on-arrival is not available for Indians unless arriving from Thailand or Singapore and holding valid visas for those countries. This is valid for 7 days only, and limited to select entry points like Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, and Penang.

Singapore: Strict but smooth eVisa process

Pre-approved visa required
Singapore maintains its strict visa policy in 2025 for Indian nationals. A pre-approved tourist visa is still mandatory, but the application process is fully digital through authorized visa agents.

Visa type:

  • Tourist visa (Multiple Entry)

  • Validity: Up to 2 years

  • Duration of stay per visit: 30 days

How to apply:

  • Must apply via authorized travel agents or through VFS Global.

  • Fee: ₹2,000–₹2,500 (processing + agent fees)

  • Processing time: 3–5 working days

  • Application cannot be done directly by the individual traveler

Documents required:

  • Valid passport

  • Completed visa form (14A)

  • Passport-sized photo (white background)

  • Cover letter and itinerary

  • Proof of stay

  • Return air tickets

Notable 2025 update:
Indian citizens with a valid US, UK, EU, Japan, or Australia visa (used in past 2 years) may be eligible for simplified entry processing under special categories.

Travel tips for Indian visitors

  • Check for airline tie-ins: Some airlines like AirAsia and Scoot offer bundled visa assistance and flight deals in 2025.

  • Book roundtrip flights: Immigration officers often ask for proof of onward travel.

  • Avoid overstay: Overstaying any visa—even by a day—can lead to fines or entry bans.

  • Respect local laws: Each country has different cultural norms and penalties. Malaysia and Singapore, in particular, have strict public behavior rules.

Looking ahead

Southeast Asian countries are increasingly recognizing India as a key tourism and economic partner. Thailand’s visa waiver, Malaysia’s e-processing, and Singapore’s efficient multi-entry options make regional travel easier than ever before.

As of mid-2025, all three nations are discussing ASEAN-wide mobility frameworks that may further relax visa conditions for Indian and South Asian travelers by late 2026. With these updates, planning a multi-country Southeast Asia trip has never been more achievable or more affordable.
