Malaysia Not Ready to Restore Budi95 Fuel Quota

Malaysia Not Ready to Restore Budi95 Fuel Quota

Post by : Shakul

Malaysia's government has announced that it is not yet considering restoring the Budi95 monthly fuel quota from 200 litres to 300 litres. Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said authorities are still monitoring global developments, particularly the situation in the Middle East and its impact on oil prices.

Ceasefire Still Too New

Speaking in Putrajaya, Amir Hamzah explained that the recently announced ceasefire remains in its early stages. He noted that negotiations are expected to continue over the coming weeks and it is still uncertain whether the agreement will hold long enough to stabilize energy markets.

Focus Remains on Protecting Malaysians

The minister said the government's main priority is to shield Malaysians from external economic shocks while maintaining sustainable subsidy spending. He emphasized that current measures are designed to balance public support with fiscal responsibility.

Majority of Users Unaffected

According to Amir Hamzah, more than 80 percent of Malaysians consume less than the current 200-litre monthly quota. As a result, the reduction from 300 litres has had a limited impact on most fuel users across the country.

Fuel Conservation Encouraged

The government continues to encourage citizens to adopt fuel-saving habits. Officials are promoting carpooling, remote work arrangements where possible, and more efficient fuel consumption to reduce overall pressure on national resources.

Oil Prices Show Signs of Easing

Although global oil prices have started to decline in recent weeks, the minister said they remain above previous levels. He noted that unsubsidised fuel prices have gradually fallen over the past three weeks, but authorities believe it is still premature to make major policy adjustments.

Policy Review Continues

Malaysia reduced the Budi95 quota from 300 litres to 200 litres beginning April 1, 2026, following tensions in West Asia. The subsidised RON95 fuel price remains fixed at RM1.99 per litre while the government continues evaluating market conditions before considering any future changes.
