Malaysia issues arrest warrant for Muhyiddin Yassin son-in-law

Malaysia issues arrest warrant for Muhyiddin Yassin son-in-law

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Petaling Jaya: Malaysian authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Adlan Berhan, the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) intensifies its investigation into alleged corruption involving foreign worker biometric data. Adlan Berhan, who is being sought for his role in the registration, recruitment, and storage of foreign worker data at a government ministry, remains overseas, police confirmed. The arrest warrant highlights the seriousness of the MACC investigation and the government’s determination to hold high-profile figures accountable.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail stated that police were notified of Adlan Berhan’s current location abroad and confirmed that an arrest warrant has been formally issued. Authorities emphasized that coordination with the relevant foreign jurisdiction will be required to bring Adlan Berhan back to Malaysia for questioning. Khalid Ismail said the police were committed to resolving the matter as quickly as possible, ensuring that Adlan Berhan faces investigation for his alleged involvement in the biometric data project.

Adlan Berhan’s international movements have drawn attention, with reports suggesting that he has been living a luxurious lifestyle in a Middle Eastern country. Alleged photos circulated by local media show Adlan Berhan with prominent figures from the region, reinforcing concerns about his ability to evade Malaysian authorities. Despite his high-profile connections, the Malaysian police and MACC remain steadfast in pursuing Adlan Berhan, stressing that no individual is above the law.

Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail confirmed that the Immigration Department had revoked Adlan Berhan’s passport following MACC’s request. This action is part of a coordinated effort to prevent Adlan Berhan from further international travel while legal processes continue. Authorities reiterated that Adlan Berhan’s cooperation is crucial for the investigation into allegations of misconduct and irregularities surrounding the foreign worker biometric data project.

Interpol has been notified regarding the Red Notice application submitted by MACC, although Malaysian authorities are still awaiting updates on international assistance to apprehend Adlan Berhan. The arrest warrant underscores the government’s commitment to combating corruption, especially in high-profile cases involving political and business figures. Officials have urged Adlan Berhan to cooperate with the investigation to ensure that justice is served.

The ongoing investigation into Adlan Berhan and the biometric data project has attracted widespread public attention. Analysts note that the case could have broader implications for transparency in Malaysia’s handling of foreign worker management. By pursuing Adlan Berhan and enforcing the arrest warrant, Malaysian authorities are sending a clear message that corruption and misconduct will not be tolerated, regardless of one’s political connections or social standing.
