The Ministry of Health Malaysia has assured that the country’s medicine supply remains stable and sufficient despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Authorities said current assessments indicate minimal short-term impact on pharmaceutical availability.
According to the ministry, medicine stock levels at public healthcare facilities are maintained between one to three months based on usage, supported by an additional buffer stock of up to two months held by concession companies. This layered supply system ensures continuity even during global disruptions.
The ministry also confirmed that continuous monitoring mechanisms are in place, including a supply disruption reporting system managed by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency. As of the latest update, no significant increase in disruption reports has been observed.
Industry feedback indicates that local pharmaceutical manufacturers currently hold raw material supplies sufficient for up to three months, while finished medicine stocks can last for approximately two months. Importers are also closely monitoring international supply chains to avoid potential shortages.
To further strengthen preparedness, the government has established a dedicated task force involving key stakeholders from the pharmaceutical sector. This group is focused on ensuring the availability of critical medicines, especially those listed under the National Essential Medicines List (NEML).
Officials emphasised that proactive measures and close coordination with industry players will continue as the situation evolves. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health by maintaining uninterrupted access to essential medicines across the country.
