Three individuals, including a married couple, have been charged in Malaysia over a massive 510 kilogram methamphetamine trafficking case. The accused — Mohd Rizuan Ramli, Muhammad Amir Aswad Ismail, and Nur Atiqa Anis Ramadha Abdullah — were brought before the Magistrate’s Court in Kangar.
The charges relate to an incident that took place on March 24 in Wang Kelian, where authorities alleged that the trio trafficked 510,000 grammes of methamphetamine. The drugs were reportedly discovered near a TNB substation junction along Jalan Wang Kelian, close to Padang Besar.
No plea was recorded during the court session, as drug trafficking cases of this magnitude fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. The accused acknowledged the charges when they were read out before Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal.
The case has been filed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, one of Malaysia’s strictest drug laws. If convicted, the accused could face the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.
The court denied bail for all three individuals, reflecting the seriousness of the charges. The next court mention has been scheduled for July 2, pending the completion of a chemical analysis report.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Alif Farhan Hassan is leading the prosecution, while the accused are being represented by defence counsel Nur Iman Nor Azmi. Authorities continue to treat the case as a major drug trafficking operation.
