Malaysian Meteorological Department has issued a severe thunderstorm warning covering large parts of Malaysia, including the Klang Valley, Kuala Lumpur, and several states across Peninsular and East Malaysia. Authorities warned residents to prepare for intense rainfall, strong winds, and lightning activity expected to continue throughout the afternoon.
The warning was officially released at 3:00 PM local time on Tuesday and remained valid until at least 6:00 PM. According to meteorologists, dangerous weather conditions were already developing in several regions while storms in other areas were expected to intensify rapidly during the evening hours.
In the Klang Valley, districts placed under alert included Petaling, Gombak, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Selangor, and Sabak Bernam. Residents in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding regions were advised to remain indoors whenever possible and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall and lightning.
Northern states across Peninsular Malaysia were also heavily affected by the weather advisory. Areas across Perlis, Kedah, Penang, and Perak were forecast to experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and intense rain. Weather experts warned that sudden downpours could reduce visibility and increase the risk of flash flooding in low-lying urban locations.
On the east coast, several districts in Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang were included in the alert zone. Authorities warned that mountainous and coastal regions could face unstable weather conditions, with heavy rainfall potentially continuing for several hours depending on local storm development.
The severe weather warning also extended to East Malaysia, including parts of Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan. Meteorologists stated that widespread thunderstorm activity was expected across multiple districts, especially in coastal and interior regions where atmospheric instability remained high.
According to MetMalaysia, thunderstorm warnings are issued when rainfall intensity is expected to exceed 20 millimeters per hour and continue for more than one hour. Officials explained that such warnings can remain active for up to six hours depending on weather conditions and storm movement.
Authorities urged the public to stay updated through official weather bulletins and take precautionary measures during the warning period. Residents were advised to secure outdoor objects, avoid open spaces, stay away from large trees and electrical structures, and remain cautious while driving through flooded or storm-affected roads.
Weather analysts noted that the current storm system reflects increasingly unstable seasonal weather patterns affecting parts of Southeast Asia. Experts continue to monitor rainfall intensity and regional storm development as authorities remain on alert for possible flooding and weather-related disruptions.
