A female teacher in Malaysia has been charged with multiple sexual assault offences involving a 14-year-old male student in a case that has shocked the local community and drawn widespread public attention. The accused, identified as Nurul Asyikin Sutan Shahril, appeared before the Seremban Sessions Court on May 20, 2026, where she pleaded not guilty to all charges filed against her.
According to court proceedings, the 42-year-old teacher faces five charges, including physical and non-physical sexual assault allegations involving the teenage student. Prosecutors stated that some of the alleged incidents took place between September 12 and September 20, 2025, at locations near an apartment complex in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan.
Investigators alleged that the accused committed acts of physical sexual assault outside an apartment building and later repeated similar actions at another residence in April this year. Authorities also accused the teacher of sending indecent images to the student through WhatsApp and allegedly encouraging the minor to send inappropriate images of himself during the same period.
The prosecution filed several charges under Malaysia’s Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries severe penalties upon conviction, including lengthy prison sentences and additional punishments under the law. Another charge was filed under Section 377B of the Penal Code related to physical sexual assault offences.
During the hearing, Deputy Public Prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni requested high bail conditions due to the seriousness of the allegations. However, the defence lawyer appealed for a lower amount, arguing that the accused faced financial difficulties and would cooperate fully with investigators throughout the legal process.
Judge Siti Aishah Ab Rashid later approved bail totaling RM25,000 for all charges combined. The court also imposed several strict conditions on the accused, including monthly reporting at a nearby police station, surrendering her passport, and avoiding all contact with the alleged victim and prosecution witnesses until the case is completed.
The case has generated strong reactions in Malaysia, with many people expressing concern about student safety and misconduct allegations involving individuals working within educational institutions. Legal experts stated that the trial is expected to receive close public attention as investigations continue and more evidence is presented before the court.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the ongoing investigation, while the next court proceedings are expected in the coming weeks. The case remains under active judicial review.
