Messi Suffers Thigh Injury in Inter Miami's Exciting Win

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Inter Miami's captain, Lionel Messi, experienced a potential left thigh injury amidst a thrilling 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Union on Sunday night.

The incident occurred in the 70th minute when Messi displayed signs of discomfort after executing a free kick. The renowned Argentine player was seen clutching the top of his left thigh and subsequently requested to be substituted.

Mateo Silvetti took Messi's place in the 73rd minute, with Messi walking off the pitch independently before proceeding to the locker room. No official information has been released regarding the severity of his injury.

The 38-year-old striker has exhibited remarkable performance this season for Inter Miami CF, leading the MLS with 20 goal contributions, comprising 12 goals and 8 assists in merely 14 matches.

Since his arrival at Inter Miami, Messi has amassed 107 goal contributions, including 62 goals and 45 assists, in 67 appearances for the team.

This injury arises at a pivotal moment, as MLS will undergo a six-week hiatus due to the upcoming FIFA World Cup, scheduled from June 11 to July 19.

Messi is anticipated to play for the Argentina national football team in the tournament, although the final squad has yet to be disclosed.

Argentina's Group J campaign will kick off against the Algeria national football team on June 16 in Kansas City. Leading up to the tournament, Argentina will engage in friendly matches against the Honduras national football team on June 6 and the Iceland national football team on June 9.
