Microsoft has said it is on track to invest 50 billion dollars by the end of the decade to expand artificial intelligence in countries across the Global South.
The announcement was made during an AI summit held in New Delhi, where senior executives from leading global technology companies met with world leaders to discuss the future of artificial intelligence.
The Global South refers to developing and emerging countries, mainly located in the southern hemisphere. These regions often have limited access to advanced digital technologies, including AI.
Microsoft said the investment will focus on building AI infrastructure, improving digital skills, and supporting innovation in these countries. The aim is to make artificial intelligence more accessible and useful for people in developing economies.
The company has already made large investments in this area. Last year, Microsoft announced AI investments worth 17.5 billion dollars in India, strengthening its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets.
Microsoft officials said the long-term investment plan reflects the company’s commitment to reducing the global technology gap and supporting economic growth in developing countries through artificial intelligence.
