India and Nepal reaffirmed their longstanding friendship and commitment to deeper cooperation following a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane in New Delhi. The discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral ties through development, connectivity, and people-to-people engagement.
Prime Minister Modi described Nepal as a “priority partner” for India and emphasized the unique relationship shared by the two neighboring countries. He noted that historical, cultural, and civilizational connections continue to serve as a strong foundation for expanding cooperation in multiple sectors.
The meeting took place after Lamichhane held separate discussions with India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Home Minister Amit Shah. Those interactions focused on regional security, economic collaboration, infrastructure development, and efforts to improve cross-border connectivity.
Speaking after the meeting, Lamichhane described the interaction with Prime Minister Modi as a meaningful and productive exchange. He stressed the importance of pursuing what he called “development diplomacy,” aimed at creating opportunities for economic growth and improving the quality of life for citizens on both sides of the border.
Lamichhane also highlighted the potential of digital connectivity, modern transportation networks, and stronger trade partnerships. He said that by leveraging shared cultural heritage and improving seamless connectivity, India and Nepal can build a future-oriented partnership based on trust, prosperity, and mutual benefit.
The leaders acknowledged the growing significance of infrastructure projects, energy cooperation, tourism development, and technological collaboration. These areas have increasingly become central pillars of the evolving relationship between the two countries as they seek greater regional integration.
The meeting reflects the continued momentum in India-Nepal relations and signals a shared willingness to deepen cooperation across strategic and economic sectors. Observers believe the discussions could contribute to advancing several ongoing bilateral initiatives and further strengthening ties between the two neighbors.
