Myanmar Seeks China Energy, Power Sector Deals

Myanmar Seeks China Energy, Power Sector Deals

Post by : Shakul

Ko Ko Lwin, Union Minister for Electricity and Energy of Myanmar, held a series of high-level meetings in Beijing to explore opportunities for cooperation in the electricity and energy sectors.

The minister, accompanied by Myanmar’s Ambassador to China U Zaw Win Myint, visited several leading Chinese companies, including China Railway Beijing Engineering Group, where discussions were held with senior officials.

Meetings were also conducted with representatives from MEIGE Joint Energy Holding and Yunnan-Irrawaddy Supply Chain to explore broader collaboration in energy development and infrastructure.

During the discussions, both sides expressed strong interest in investing in Myanmar’s electricity and energy sectors, focusing on expanding capacity and improving energy security across the country.

Key areas of cooperation included plans for drilling deep wells in mature oil fields, constructing oil refineries, and enhancing investments in traditional energy infrastructure.

The talks also highlighted opportunities in renewable energy, particularly solar power projects, as Myanmar seeks to diversify its energy mix and adopt sustainable solutions.

In addition, both sides discussed strengthening supply chain cooperation for the import of crude oil and petroleum products, aiming to ensure stable and secure energy supplies for Myanmar.

The Union Minister invited Chinese companies to visit Myanmar for further detailed discussions, signaling the government’s openness to foreign investment and long-term partnerships in the energy sector.

These engagements reflect Myanmar’s efforts to expand international cooperation and accelerate development in its critical energy infrastructure.
