Myanmar DEMU Trains Launch Yangon Mandalay

Myanmar DEMU Trains Launch Yangon Mandalay

Post by : Shakul

Myanmar is set to improve its railway connectivity with the launch of modern air conditioned DEMU passenger express trains on key routes, including the Yangon to Mandalay corridor. The new service will begin operations on May 1, 2026, following directives from the President.

According to the Ministry of Transport, Myanmar Railways will operate the new DEMU trains to provide faster and more comfortable travel for passengers across major cities. The initiative is part of broader efforts to modernize the country’s public transport system.

The Yangon to Mandalay route will include important stops such as Bago, Taungoo, Nay Pyi Taw, Yamethin, and Kyaukse, connecting key regions and improving accessibility for travelers.

Ticket prices for the new service have been set at 48,000 kyats for upper class and 34,000 kyats for first class, offering passengers different options based on comfort and affordability.

In addition to the Yangon Mandalay route, Myanmar Railways will also operate DEMU trains on the Yangon to Nay Pyi Taw route, with multiple services covering major stations along the way. These routes are expected to enhance connectivity between the country’s administrative and commercial centers.

Passengers will be able to purchase tickets through the Online Railways Ticketing and Payment system, making the booking process more convenient and accessible.

Officials have stated that as passenger demand increases, the railway network will be further expanded, including the addition of more train coaches and routes to improve overall travel capacity.

The introduction of modern DEMU trains reflects Myanmar’s commitment to upgrading its transportation infrastructure and providing safer, more efficient, and comfortable travel options for the public.
