In a significant action against cross-border drug smuggling, authorities recovered a substantial amount of heroin near the India–Myanmar border in Manipur and took two people into custody for their alleged links to an international drug syndicate.
The seizure followed specific intelligence inputs, after which a joint enforcement team stopped a vehicle in a border area. A search of the four-wheeler led to the recovery of 7.31 kilograms of heroin, which had been smartly concealed inside 638 plastic soap containers to avoid suspicion.
Officials stated that the confiscated drugs are estimated to be worth around ₹15 crore in the international illegal market. Preliminary findings indicate that the heroin originated from Myanmar’s Haichin region and was moved through thick forest routes in Manipur to evade security forces.
The arrested individuals, both from Churachandpur district, are believed to have used remote forest trails and lesser-known paths to bypass routine checks. According to officials, tighter surveillance on known smuggling routes has forced traffickers to shift to riskier and more isolated paths.
Security agencies have intensified monitoring along the border areas and reaffirmed their commitment to taking firm action against drug networks operating across international boundaries.
