NEET UG to Go Computer-Based From 2027

NEET UG to Go Computer-Based From 2027

Post by : Shakul

The Government of India has announced major changes to the NEET-UG examination process following the recent paper leak controversy. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan confirmed that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for undergraduate medical admissions will become fully computer-based from next year in an effort to improve transparency and strengthen the examination system.

The announcement came after the National Testing Agency cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination due to alleged irregularities and paper leak allegations. The issue triggered nationwide concern among students and parents, leading to demands for strict action and a fair re-examination process.

Speaking in New Delhi, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the government is committed to ensuring that such malpractice does not happen again. He said authorities understand the hard work and dedication students put into preparing for highly competitive examinations like NEET and promised stronger safeguards in future exams.

The minister confirmed that the NTA will conduct a re-examination for NEET-UG 2026 on June 21, 2026. He also announced that the exam format will be shifted entirely to a computer-based test system from 2027 onwards to reduce the possibility of paper leaks and improve monitoring during the examination process.

According to officials, the Central Bureau of Investigation has already begun a detailed investigation into the alleged irregularities linked to the cancelled examination. Authorities are examining possible involvement of organized cheating networks and individuals connected to the paper leak case.

The transition to a computer-based examination system is expected to modernize the entrance examination process and improve security measures. Officials believe the digital format will help prevent unauthorized access to question papers and allow better supervision through technology-based monitoring systems.

Education experts say the decision marks one of the biggest reforms in India’s medical entrance examination system in recent years. However, many students and coaching institutes are also expected to demand proper preparation support and mock testing facilities before the new digital format is implemented nationwide.

The NEET-UG examination is one of India’s largest competitive entrance tests and is conducted for admission to medical colleges across the country. Every year, millions of students appear for the examination, making transparency and fairness a major priority for the government and education authorities.
