The Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced a new FASTag annual pass to make highway travel easier for private vehicle owners. This pass costs Rs 3,000 and will start on August 15, 2025. It is meant only for private vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans, not for commercial vehicles.
The pass will be valid for one year from when you activate it or for 200 trips through toll plazas, whichever happens first. Every time you cross a toll plaza, it counts as one trip.
This new pass will help reduce waiting time and traffic jams at toll booths. It will also make paying tolls simpler because you pay once for many trips instead of paying every time you pass a toll.
You will soon be able to activate or renew this pass through a special link on the Rajmarg Yatra App and on the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
FASTag works by using a small sticker on your car’s windshield that talks to scanners at toll plazas using RFID technology. This system automatically deducts toll charges from your bank account or prepaid wallet, so you don’t have to stop and pay cash.
This new annual pass is expected to make highway travel faster, cheaper, and more convenient for millions of private vehicle owners across India.
