UAE Commemorates World MS Day with Nationwide Initiative

UAE Commemorates World MS Day with Nationwide Initiative

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In observance of World MS Day 2026, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) has initiated a widespread awareness campaign throughout the UAE, reaffirming its dedication to aiding individuals living with multiple sclerosis (MS) while enhancing public comprehension of this complex neurological disorder.

Kicking off its fourth consecutive year, this campaign is being implemented across various sectors including healthcare, workplaces, and community spaces nationwide. The objectives include deepening awareness of MS, fostering open discussions, and constructing robust support networks for those impacted.

Aligning with the global theme, “My MS Diagnosis: Navigating MS Together,” this year's initiative sheds light on the experiences individuals encounter after being diagnosed. It aims to ensure those diagnosed with MS have access to trustworthy information and supportive communities to confidently navigate their journeys.

Through various educational programs, community-engagement tactics, and public outreach efforts, NMSS intends to clarify misconceptions about MS while promoting early support, accessible healthcare information, and inclusive settings for individuals living with MS.

Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Vice Chair of the NMSS, stated that World MS Day is a vital reminder, emphasizing that no one should face the difficulties of MS in solitude. She expressed, “Living with MS is a journey marked by the support of families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals. As we observe World MS Day for the fourth consecutive year, we are committed to raising awareness, enhancing understanding, and fostering a more supportive environment for those affected.”

Dr. Al Kaabi stressed that significant progress requires collective efforts and a shared sense of responsibility. The nationwide campaign unites healthcare organizations, community groups, and the general public to enhance access to information and practical assistance, ultimately paving the way for a more inclusive environment for those with MS.

This year, NMSS has rolled out various educational resources to support individuals at differing stages of their MS journey.

Among these resources is the “Talking About Your MS Diagnosis Guide,” which aims to assist individuals in articulating their diagnosis to family, friends, and support networks. This guide offers practical advice, communication methods, and guided exercises focused on facilitating clear and confident discussions.

Furthermore, the NMSS has introduced the “Empowering Carers Guide,” aimed at supporting caregivers of those living with MS and other long-term health conditions by providing practical information and support tools.

Additionally, a specialized Human Resources Guide has been curated for employers seeking to create more inclusive workplaces. It recommends accessibility measures and support practices to assist individuals living with MS in continuing their professional aspirations. Endorsed by The Butterfly, a prominent organization in accessibility solutions, these resources are primarily tailored for those with MS but can also support individuals with other chronic health issues.

The outreach efforts extend well beyond resources, covering over 30 healthcare facilities nationwide, improving accessibility to MS-related support services, and providing reliable information to patients, families, and healthcare workers.

To further enhance its educational outreach, NMSS will host an online webinar on June 5, 2026, featuring experts in nutrition, mental wellness, and medical research who will share insights on holistic support practices for families living with MS in the UAE.

Community engagement remains central to this year's campaign. The “Carry It Forward” theme will drive a cafe activation across more than 30 locations in the UAE on May 30 and 31, aimed at encouraging discussions surrounding MS and fostering public involvement in raising awareness.

Moreover, various iconic landmarks in the UAE will be illuminated to raise awareness and spark conversations about multiple sclerosis throughout the nation.

With its extensive World MS Day campaign, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society seeks to amplify awareness, build connections, and promote inclusivity for all individuals living with MS. The initiative sends a compelling message: those affected by multiple sclerosis are never alone, and a supportive community stands alongside them every step of the way.
