Nora Fatehi Honors Shreya Ghoshal as Bollywood's Voice

Nora Fatehi Honors Shreya Ghoshal as Bollywood's Voice

Post by : Meena Ariff

Actor and dancer Nora Fatehi has praised singer Shreya Ghoshal as the go-to artist for introducing global audiences, particularly “Bollywood newcomers”, to Indian music and culture. In a guest appearance on American pop icon Ciara’s podcast, Nora described Shreya as “an icon” with “the most exquisite voice I have ever heard.”

The Canadian-Moroccan star recently worked with Ghoshal on the song Oh Mama! TETEMA, which is receiving acclaim for its fusion of Hindi and international melodies. Reflecting on their collaboration, Nora states, “She performs the Hindi portions, and I assure you, Ciara, you will reach out to me soon saying, ‘Wow!’ She possesses the most stunning voice I've encountered. She has sung some of the most famous tracks from iconic films.”

When Ciara inquired which Bollywood artist she would recommend for those unfamiliar with Indian music, Nora immediately mentioned Shreya Ghoshal. “Anyone eager to grasp Bollywood music and culture, the essence of Bollywood, should listen to her,” Nora explained, characterizing Ghoshal as a “walking autotune” due to her impeccable pitch and consistency.

Nora’s praise also highlighted her profound respect for musical artistry. “When I was told I would sing with her, I felt apprehensive. I am not a singer; I’m a vibe creator. But she is a genuine vocalist,” she disclosed.

The song has sparked conversations not just for its infectious melody, but also for uniting two powerhouse women from diverse musical realms—Nora embodying the global pop-dance scene, while Shreya epitomizes traditional Indian excellence.

Shreya has been awarded the National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer five times and the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer across five different languages, making her one of the most celebrated artists in Indian cinema.

Initially rising to fame as a performer and dancer in popular tracks like Dilbar, Saki Saki, and Garmi, Nora has consistently pushed her artistic boundaries. In recent years, she has made strides towards an international music career.

In 2024 and 2025, Nora plans to partner with both global and Indian artists including Jason Derulo, Shenseea, Honey Singh, and Shreya Ghoshal.

Nora’s evolution from a dancer to a singer and performer highlights her aspiration to represent Indian entertainment on a worldwide stage. Her endorsement of Shreya Ghoshal stems from genuine admiration and an understanding of what it takes to reach global audiences through music.

By advocating for Shreya as the entry point for international listeners, Nora emphasizes the enduring allure of melody, emotion, and authenticity—qualities that define Ghoshal’s artistic legacy.

The discussion involving Ciara, Nora, and the mention of Shreya Ghoshal symbolizes a significant connection between Western and Indian pop cultures. With artists like Nora promoting Indian music to new listeners and legends like Shreya encapsulating its spirit, Bollywood’s reach continues to grow beyond borders.

As Nora Fatehi succinctly stated: “Anyone wanting to connect with the core of Bollywood should listen to Shreya Ghoshal.”
