Specialized Training on International Humanitarian Law Kicks Off in Oman

Post by : Maya Rahman

The Oman Charitable Organization (OCO) has unveiled an intensive training programme centered on International Humanitarian Law aimed at enhancing the skills of humanitarian workers throughout the GCC. This two-day initiative, which is being executed in collaboration with the GCC States' Secretariat General, gathers participants from Red Crescent societies, OCO personnel, and governmental bodies.

Its primary goal is to promote understanding of fundamental humanitarian law principles, thereby improving the efficiency of personnel engaged in humanitarian efforts. Key topics include best practices for delivering aid, safeguarding civilians, and effectively responding to emergencies and disasters.

The opening day featured a mix of panel discussions and hands-on activities focused on executing humanitarian operations that align with global legal standards.

Badr bin Mohammed Al Zaabi, Acting CEO of OCO, highlighted that this programme exemplifies the organization’s dedication to fostering both regional and international collaboration in humanitarian efforts. He remarked that International Humanitarian Law is vital for ensuring the protection of individuals during crises and conflicts.

Al Zaabi further stressed that collective efforts among GCC nations are essential for enhancing the preparedness of humanitarian organizations. This programme aims to ensure personnel can respond swiftly and effectively, in compliance with international legal norms.

Through such programs, OCO aspires to empower humanitarian teams with the knowledge and readiness needed to deliver aid effectively and ethically across the region, reinforcing the significance of international legal standards in every emergency response.
