OpenAI, the company that made ChatGPT, has signed a big deal with the US Defense Department. The contract is worth $200 million and will last for one year. OpenAI will use its artificial intelligence technology to help the US military and government workers do their jobs better and faster.
The main goal is to build new AI tools that can solve important problems for national security. These tools will help in areas like protecting computer systems from hackers, making it easier for soldiers and their families to get healthcare, and helping the military organize and use information more efficiently.
OpenAI said that all the ways the military uses this AI must follow strict rules. The company will not allow its AI to be used for building weapons or causing harm to people or property.
This is the first time OpenAI has made such a big deal directly with the US military. The work will mostly happen in Washington, D.C., and should be finished by July 2026. OpenAI hopes this project will show how AI can make government work better and keep the country safe.
