Nationwide Outrage After Two U.S. Citizens Killed by ICE Agents

Nationwide Outrage After Two U.S. Citizens Killed by ICE Agents

Post by : Meena Ariff

American pop star Katy Perry has urged her Instagram followers to contact their U.S. senators and oppose government funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), following the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens during recent enforcement operations.

The deaths of Renee Good, a mother of three, and Alex Pretti, an intensive care nurse, have triggered widespread protests in Minnesota. The incidents occurred amid an expanded federal immigration enforcement push ordered by President Donald Trump, drawing sharp criticism from civil rights groups and community leaders.

Actor Pedro Pascal joined the growing public response by sharing drawings of Good and Pretti on social media, writing that their deaths were a powerful reason to consider a nationwide strike. Singer Billie Eilish also spoke out, calling Pretti “a real American hero” and challenging fellow celebrities to break their silence and speak up.

The National Basketball Players Association released a strong statement saying players could no longer remain silent. The union emphasized the importance of protecting freedom of speech and expressed solidarity with protesters who are risking their safety to demand accountability and justice.

Federal officials described both shootings as acts of self-defense by officers. However, video footage from the scenes has raised serious doubts about that claim, intensifying public scrutiny and fueling calls for independent investigations.

The incidents have reignited national debate over immigration enforcement tactics and the use of force by federal agents. Protests continue in Minnesota, with demonstrators demanding transparency, accountability, and meaningful reform as the country grapples with renewed questions about civil rights and law enforcement power.
