Overnight air strikes carried out by Pakistan hit several areas in Afghanistan, including the capital Kabul, leaving at least four people dead and several others injured, according to Afghan officials.
A Pakistani security official confirmed that the strikes targeted militants belonging to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a group responsible for numerous attacks inside Pakistan. The official said the operation was aimed at eliminating militant hideouts believed to be operating from Afghan territory.
Local authorities in Kabul reported that the bombardment damaged residential homes in the city. Khalil Zadran said four people were killed and at least fifteen others were injured when explosions struck several buildings during the night.
Officials from the Afghan Taliban government also reported that the strikes extended beyond Kabul. According to spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, Pakistani attacks also targeted the southern province of Kandahar and eastern provinces Paktia and Paktika, all located near the Pakistan–Afghanistan border.
Pakistan has recently intensified military operations against the TTP after a rise in militant attacks within its territory. Islamabad has repeatedly accused militant groups of using Afghan soil as a safe haven, a claim that Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government has denied.
The conflict has increased tensions between the two neighboring countries, with frequent clashes reported along the border in recent weeks. These confrontations have disrupted trade routes and forced residents living near the frontier to flee their homes for safety.
According to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, dozens of civilians have been killed in cross-border military operations since late February. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees also reported that more than 100,000 people have been displaced due to the escalating violence.
Despite the accusations, Pakistani officials insist their operations specifically target militant groups and not civilians. However, casualty figures from both sides remain difficult to independently verify as the conflict continues to escalate along the border region.
