Vietnam Prime Minister Le Minh Hung chaired the regular Government meeting for May 2026 in Hanoi on June 3, bringing together senior government leaders, ministers, and representatives from key national institutions to review the country’s economic performance and policy priorities. The meeting marked the second regular session of Vietnam’s 16th Government and focused on evaluating progress made during the first five months of the year.
The session was attended by members of the Politburo, the Secretariat, deputy prime ministers, government ministers, and representatives from the National Assembly and the Vietnam Fatherland Front. Discussions centered on the socio-economic situation, public investment disbursement, implementation of national development programs, digital transformation initiatives, scientific innovation, administrative reforms, and priorities for the months ahead.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung praised ministries and government agencies for improving the quality of policy reports and assessments. He particularly commended the Ministry of Finance, the Government Office, and the Ministry of Public Security for their contributions in preparing comprehensive reports covering economic performance, development indicators, and the implementation of strategic national programs.
The Prime Minister noted that Vietnam had achieved encouraging socio-economic results during May and the first five months of 2026. Macroeconomic stability has largely been maintained, while several sectors continued to record positive growth. However, he cautioned that inflationary pressures and slower-than-expected performance in certain industries remain concerns that require close monitoring and timely policy responses.
A major focus of the meeting was the acceleration of institutional reforms and legislative work. According to the Prime Minister, substantial progress has been made in drafting laws and processing pending policy documents. Nevertheless, he stressed that the workload facing ministries and government agencies remains significant. He warned that any slowdown in reform efforts could affect the implementation of key Party directives and National Assembly resolutions.
The government also reviewed progress in science and technology development, innovation, digital transformation, and the implementation of Project 06. Prime Minister Hung emphasized the need to complete legal frameworks, strengthen digital infrastructure, improve connectivity between central and local authorities, and accelerate the development of strategic technology products. He also highlighted the importance of investing in human resource development to support Vietnam’s long-term modernization goals.
Looking ahead, the Prime Minister called for stronger coordination between ministries, local governments, and public institutions to sustain economic growth and achieve ambitious development targets. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, improving public investment efficiency, and advancing digital transformation. Officials were instructed to intensify efforts in areas where growth remains below expectations and to implement more decisive measures to support Vietnam’s objective of achieving double-digit economic growth in the coming years.
