Rishi Negi on Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 19 hosting: preparation, pay and passion

Rishi Negi on Salman Khan’s Bigg Boss 19 hosting: preparation, pay and passion

Post by : Meena Ariff

Salman Khan has been the face of Bigg Boss for many seasons, turning Weekend Ka Vaar into a must-watch segment. Each season reignites conversations about his approach to hosting, alleged partiality and the eye-catching remuneration reports that follow him.

Rishi Negi, producer of Bigg Boss 19 and a representative of Banijay Asia and EndemolShine India, has addressed how Salman prepares for the show and responded to the persistent salary speculation.

Salman Khan’s preparation for Weekend Ka Vaar

Negi says that, despite assumptions to the contrary, Salman does engage with the programme material ahead of his appearances. According to Negi, the star typically reviews an hour or two of compiled footage before each Weekend Ka Vaar.

"He may not sit through every single episode, but he watches key clips with us," Negi noted. "We cover the main incidents and conversations from the week. He also hears candid reactions from people who follow the show closely."

Negi explained that the Weekend Ka Vaar episodes are carefully crafted through collaboration:

Negi emphasised that the weekend episodes are shaped by a mix of Salman’s viewpoints, the creators’ editorial choices and audience sentiment. "He has a clear investment in what unfolds in the house. We bring context, and viewer feedback helps guide the final shape of the episode," he said.

‘No one can make Salman say what he doesn’t believe in’

Addressing the recurring charge that Salman simply parrots lines fed to him, Negi was unequivocal: those familiar with the actor know he will not voice something he does not genuinely hold. "We discuss and debate, and when he steps on stage it reflects his conviction. You cannot make him say what he doesn't stand by," Negi remarked.

This explanation, Negi suggested, helps explain why public reactions to Salman’s hosting are often split — his responses stem from instinct and principle rather than strict scripting.

The truth behind Salman Khan’s massive Bigg Boss fee

Each season sparks reports of large sums paid to Salman, with rumours for Bigg Boss 19 suggesting figures between ₹150 crore and ₹200 crore. When pressed on these numbers, Negi declined to verify financial details, citing confidentiality.

"That agreement sits between him and JioCinema, so I don't have access to those specifics," he said. "Whatever the figure, he brings value to the show — and as a producer, I'm glad he's our weekend attraction."

His measured response underlined how closely Salman’s star power and the show’s fortunes remain linked.

An emotional connection beyond the screen

Negi also spoke about Salman’s on-and-off remarks about leaving the programme, explaining that the star’s repeated returns indicate a deeper emotional investment. "You can see his genuine concern and involvement when he's on stage — it's not just performance," Negi observed.

That emotional layer, he said, gives Bigg Boss added resonance: amid the confrontations and high drama, Salman’s empathy often brings a humanising touch to the proceedings.

A hosting legacy unmatched

Since assuming the host role, Salman Khan has left a distinct imprint on reality TV in India. His blend of humour, authority and bluntness has invited both praise and criticism, a balance that has helped keep the format culturally relevant.

As Bigg Boss 19 continues to generate conversation online, Negi’s comments aim to clear misconceptions and underline why Salman remains central to the programme’s appeal.
