Qatar has expressed its approval of the Netherlands and Belgium's decision to prohibit products coming from Israeli settlements. The State of Qatar views these actions as pivotal in bolstering global efforts to oppose settlement policies in the occupied Palestinian territories.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that these bans constitute a meaningful stance against settlement policies deemed contrary to international law. The ministry added that such measures contravene international resolutions, notably United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, stressing they infringe upon the rights of the Palestinian populace.
The Ministry underscored that the steps taken by both the Netherlands and Belgium would aid broader initiatives aimed at halting settlement growth and promoting adherence to international law.
Qatar's foreign ministry has called for other nations to implement similar restrictions on goods from Israeli settlements. It highlighted the necessity for the global community to fulfill its legal and moral duties to ensure Israel reconsiders its settlement strategies in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The ministry emphasized that a unified international response is crucial for addressing this issue and for promoting actions rooted in international legitimacy.
The statement also reiterated Qatar's enduring support for the Palestinian cause and its people, maintaining its position grounded in international legitimacy resolutions and advocating for a two-state solution.
Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state based on the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem identified as its capital.
