In its latest session in Doha, Qatar's Shura Council assessed the National Health Strategy for 2024-2030, underlining the necessity to enhance preventive healthcare and digital health solutions for better patient services.
Led by HE Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim and joined by HE Minister of Public Health Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud, the meeting featured discussions about the strategy's objectives and the government's execution plans.
At the commencement of the meeting, members condemned the recent drone attack on a commercial vessel in Qatar’s waters, deeming it a critical threat to maritime security and regional stability.
They cautioned that incidents affecting commercial shipping could jeopardize international trade and supply chains, emphasizing the importance of upholding international law and navigational safety.
HE Al Ghanim acknowledged the leadership’s unyielding commitment to healthcare, as directed by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, stating that the National Health Strategy is integral to the nation’s vision to enhance quality of life and develop a robust healthcare framework.
The health minister explained that the strategy is centered on three pivotal objectives: improving public health, enhancing the patient experience, and bolstering the healthcare system's resilience and efficiency.
HE Al Mahmoud mentioned ongoing initiatives aimed at tackling non-communicable diseases such as obesity and diabetes through advocacy, preventive measures, and screening programs.
He further noted plans to enhance the national health insurance framework, optimize healthcare financing, and improve partnerships between public and private sectors.
Additionally, Qatar is set to expand mental health services, bolster emergency preparedness, and accelerate digital advancements using integrated health data systems and AI technologies.
Shura Council members highlighted the need to minimize delays in healthcare access, strengthen primary care, and advocate for preventive health strategies across the nation.
They also called for increased funding for medical research and stronger mental health awareness initiatives aimed particularly at youth.
Towards the end of the session, a draft law concerning petrol station regulations was referred to the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee for additional consideration.
HE Al Ghanim also updated members on the participation of a Shura Council delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean summit and its 20th assembly in Montenegro, where key topics included parliamentary diplomacy and international cooperation.
He emphasized the critical need for enhanced dialogue among parliaments to effectively tackle both regional and global issues.
