At the 20th CITES Conference of the Parties in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Qatar has showcased its significant wildlife conservation and environmental protection initiatives. This crucial international event gathers nations worldwide to discuss strategies for safeguarding endangered species and reinforcing global conservation measures. Qatar's active participation underscores its steadfast dedication to preserving natural habitats for future generations.
A high-ranking delegation from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, led by Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Muslimani, Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Natural Reserves, represented Qatar at the conference. In his engagements, Dr. Al Muslimani met with Mohammed bin Hamad Al Zaheri, Director General of the UAE’s International Fund for Houbara Conservation. Their discussions centered around enhancing collaborative efforts for houbara conservation, encompassing breeding programs, release strategies, and comprehensive project management aimed at ensuring the survival of this pivotal bird species.
The two parties explored how their joint initiatives could broaden scientific research, refine breeding methodologies, and fortify long-term conservation plans. They also assessed ongoing projects and envisioned new collaborative opportunities between Qatar and the UAE for regional houbara protection.
Additionally, the Qatari delegation engaged with Andrei Kim, Vice-Chair of South Korea’s forests and wildlife committee, delving into shared wildlife protection interests and environmental challenges. Both nations expressed eagerness to bolster their partnership through technical collaborations, training initiatives, and the exchange of knowledge. They also discussed potential new conservation projects benefiting both countries.
Qatar’s involvement in the CITES Conference highlights its proactive stance in global environmental dialogues. The interactions during this gathering reflect Qatar's commitment to collaborate with international allies to guard endangered species and advocate for sustainable environmental practices. By enhancing partnerships with nations like the UAE and South Korea, Qatar plays a vital role in fostering a more balanced natural ecosystem.
