Doha: Qatar's Ministry of Education and Higher Education has revealed its scholarship initiative for the 2026–2027 academic cycle. This new scheme introduces innovative educational tracks and improved financial backing aimed at cultivating essential skills for the nation's future.
The announcement took place at a press conference led by HE Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the ministry, alongside esteemed educational representatives. Central to the initiative are four primary objectives: fostering economic development, ensuring equitable access, promoting a culture of inclusion, and nurturing local talent. The program supports the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy.
Dr Hareb Aljabri, Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs, emphasized the significance of this revamped program in shaping skilled practitioners. A notable feature is the dedicated track for students with disabilities, granting them the opportunity to pursue education at international institutions with adequate support.
Additionally, the program offers a bridging course for arts students transitioning to scientific disciplines. It also introduces new scholarships in critical sectors including nuclear engineering and clinical psychology, tailored to address healthcare and environmental challenges.
The scholarship portfolio encompasses opportunities at prestigious global universities, as well as those located in Education City. Financial assistance will be adjusted according to the chosen discipline, with enhanced stipends reserved for medical and engineering scholars. Internal and government scholarships will also be recalibrated based on academic credentials and specialization.
For postgraduate scholarships, rigorous eligibility criteria will apply for government employees. Candidates must fulfill academic prerequisites and secure employer endorsement to ensure alignment with workforce strategies.
Applications for external scholarships at Education City institutions and private universities will be accepted from July 1 to August 15. Public university scholarship applications will be open from November 15 to December 30.
The Ministry of Labor underscored that this initiative strengthens the synergy between education and employment markets, notably in the private sector. The Civil Service and Government Development Bureau confirmed that priority will be given to fields such as artificial intelligence, data science, and nuclear engineering, ensuring clear career paths for graduates.
This enhanced scholarship initiative is designed to equip students with the skills necessary for future careers while supporting Qatar’s long-standing developmental goals.
