R Madhavan Discusses New Global Views on Indian Men

R Madhavan Discusses New Global Views on Indian Men

Post by : Meena Ariff

In a recent conversation, actor R Madhavan highlighted the transformation of how Indian men are perceived around the world. Chatting with his De De Pyaar De 2 co-stars Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and Meezan Jafri, he humorously reflected on the skepticism Indian men once faced, particularly from Western women who thought they were merely flirting.

Madhavan noted this perception has undergone a remarkable shift.

“In the past, when we entered bars abroad, the white women would see us as potential flirts. Now, it’s the other way around—four white women might approach an Indian man, believing he’s an entrepreneur. I haven’t seen this portrayal of Indian men in films yet,” Madhavan chuckled.

He expressed a desire to see this confident and reputable image of Indian men more frequently in cinema.

Madhavan also touched on the evolution of male characters in Indian cinema. Although there have been advancements in showcasing men with depth and confidence, he suggested there is still progress to be made. He remarked that many directors tend to prioritize catering to their mentors instead of pursuing innovative storytelling.

“What holds me back is the industry’s inclination to conform—directors often make stories that satisfy their mentors,” he said.

Madhavan expressed enthusiasm for collaborations with contemporary directors who can combine modern themes with meaningful narratives.

Fans can look forward to Madhavan in Anshul Sharma’s De De Pyaar De 2, a sequel to the 2019 hit featuring Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh. The film, backed by T-Series Films and Luv Films, picks up from the first part and premieres in cinemas on November 14.

The actor is also set to appear in Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, alongside Ranveer Singh, Arjun, Akshaye Khanna, and Sanjay Dutt. Recently, Ranveer unveiled Madhavan’s striking look for the film, referring to his character as the “Charioteer of Karma.” Dhurandhar is scheduled for release on December 5, 2025, followed by a Netflix debut.
