Rashmika Mandanna stays in the spotlight during her busy 2025 with The Girlfriend, following her roles in Chhaava, Sikandar, and Thamma. This romantic drama, crafted by director Rahul Ravindran, was released in theaters on Friday but has kicked off with a modest box office return.
Early estimates from Sacnilk indicate that The Girlfriend earned ₹1.3 crore on its first day, marking Rashmika's lowest opening figure of the year. In contrast, her previous film, Thamma, had an impressive Diwali opening, raking in ₹24 crore. However, the latest film's performance is overshadowed by a non-holiday Friday and minimal promotional efforts, placing its future squarely on audience word of mouth.
The cast also includes Dheekshith Shetty, Anu Emmanuel, Rao Ramesh, and Rohini. It explores a seemingly enchanting romance that takes a dark turn due to the aggressive nature of Shetty’s character.
Emotionally invested in the project, Rashmika expressed on X, “When Rahul initially shared the story, it brought tears to my eyes. The moments resonated deeply, and Bhooma feels so personal to me.”
As audience reactions begin to emerge, the box office outcome over the weekend will determine whether The Girlfriend can gain traction in theaters.
