Renowned filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari is poised to adapt the epic Ramayana for the big screen, showcasing an unprecedented level of grandeur. This highly anticipated production, led by Namit Malhotra, features a stellar cast, including Ranbir Kapoor, Ravie Dubey, Sunny Deol, Sai Pallavi, and Yash, aiming to authentically bring this classic tale to life. The film will debut in two parts, with the first opening scheduled for Diwali 2026 and the second for Diwali 2027.
In a recent podcast episode hosted by Ranveer Allahbadia, Ravie Dubey, who plays the role of Lakshman, reflected on the set's working atmosphere. He noted that the production was remarkably efficient, characterized by well-planned schedules and punctuality, which is often rare in large-scale film productions. “Our schedule was seamless, with everyone being well-prepared and wholeheartedly dedicated to their parts,” Ravie shared.
Ravie also discussed the profound impact his role had on him personally. “To authentically portray Lakshman, I had to completely transform my daily routine. It's crucial for the audience to perceive sincerity in performances. Each of us, particularly Ranbir, adapted our lives to honor these legendary figures. This experience felt more akin to a ritual than mere filmmaking,” he recounted.
He praised Ranbir Kapoor, stating, “Ranbir possesses an exceptional presence. His quiet demeanor and commitment are remarkable—his energy is both subtle and impactful, influencing those around him positively.” Additionally, Ravie described Yash, who plays Ravana, as warm and easy to approach. “While both actors have different styles, their kindness is equally notable,” he remarked.
The film's impressive cast adds depth to this spectacular retelling. Sunny Deol’s portrayal of Lord Hanuman showcases his formidable screen presence, while Sai Pallavi embodies Sita with both grace and resilience, and Yash brings a rich complexity to Ravana. Nitesh Tiwari’s direction and Mukesh Chhabra’s casting expertise are set to ensure that each character resonates with audiences through both performance and personality.
Earlier this year, the filmmakers released the film’s first look, which captivated fans. Visuals of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama left viewers in awe, hinting at the project’s immense scale and ambition. The film promises to blend traditional storytelling with contemporary cinematic methods, ensuring it appeals to both avid fans of the epic and wider audiences.
Ravie Dubey also highlighted the extensive preparation that underpins the film. Cast members delved deep into understanding their characters, focusing on psychological, physical, and behavioral nuances. “Every movement, dialogue, and response had to reflect the essence of the character. We made significant sacrifices to uphold authenticity,” Ravie explained.
With the Ramayana, Nitesh Tiwari aims to craft an epic narrative that fuses devotion, drama, and cinematic artistry. The combination of Ranbir Kapoor's passion, a strong ensemble cast, and meticulous production standards promises viewers an unforgettable cinematic journey, positioning this adaptation among the most eagerly awaited films of the decade.
The first part of the film is set for release on Diwali 2026, with the sequel to follow the next year, continuing this legendary tale with the same level of detail and grandeur. Enthusiastic fans eagerly anticipate the film's release, hoping to witness India’s revered epic brought to life with stunning visuals and emotional depth.
