Ravinder Singh Explores Modern Men's Dilemma Amid Evolving Gender Norms

Ravinder Singh Explores Modern Men's Dilemma Amid Evolving Gender Norms

Post by : Saif Rahman

On November 19, 2025, the world marked International Men's Day, a day focused on highlighting the problems encountered by men, including mental health issues, homelessness, abuse, and suicide. In this context, content creator Ravinder Singh took to Instagram, where his thought-provoking post quickly gained traction, igniting discussions around the struggles of “modern men” in contemporary society.

Singh articulated that men are becoming “super confused” due to the “new rules” that advocate for gender equality. He mentioned that while men are striving to adapt, shed outdated behaviors, and grasp current expectations, they frequently find themselves bombarded with “mixed signals” that can be overwhelming. As he pointed out, there's an expectation for men to treat everyone with gender neutrality, yet at the same time, they are still required to make the first move in dating, organize outings, and cover expenses. Singh portrayed this predicament as one in which men genuinely want to contribute positively but are hindered by contradicting societal norms.

Singh also highlighted the potential misuse of laws focused on women's rights, suggesting that such misuse may occasionally result in false claims that negatively affect men's careers and reputations. While he affirmed the necessity of advancing gender equality and women’s rights, he remarked that modern men aren't “lost”—rather, they feel “overwhelmed” by the swiftly changing societal context. His message resonated with numerous followers, with comments ranging from expressions of gratitude to offers of virtual support, one stating, “Finally, someone said it! Thank you!” while another remarked, “If I were a woman, I would give you a tight hug—lots of respect for you!”

India faces considerable gender-related safety challenges, as illustrated by its 128th position in the 2023 Women, Peace and Security Index out of 177 countries. The NARI 2025 Report found that 40% of women feel unsafe in urban areas, while 2022 saw 4.45 lakh recorded incidents of crime against women. These figures indicate that despite strides toward gender equality, alarming issues concerning safety and social dynamics continue for women. Singh’s commentary underscores that men also grapple with pressures in this evolving landscape, especially when addressing dating norms, societal expectations, and legal obligations.

International Men’s Day was first celebrated in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago, initiated by Jerome Teelucksingh to honor his father's birthday on November 19. The day encourages conversations around men’s health, promotes positive role models, and fosters awareness of various men’s issues. Singh’s reflections add depth to this discourse, spotlighting the distinct challenges modern men face while navigating the complexities of gender equality.

In closing, Ravinder Singh’s viral commentary has sparked important discussions about how modern men endure confusion and stress in this era of gender equality. His insights serve as a reminder that while the drive for women’s rights is essential, it is equally crucial to recognize and assist men as they strive to adapt to evolving expectations. Conversations ignited by such posts can lead to a better understanding of gender roles and a more balanced dialogue around relationships and societal duties.
