A significant operation by the Regina Police has led to the confiscation of drugs, firearms, and cash, culminating in a total of 30 charges against two men from Regina and Saskatoon.
The Regina Police Service (RPS) initiated the investigation following the arrest of a 43-year-old man outside a residential building on Arens Road last week. This arrest unveiled a considerable amount of illegal substances, firearms, and assets suspected to be linked to criminal activities.
Law enforcement emphasizes that this seizure is a crucial step in diminishing the presence of hazardous drugs and weapons in the local community.
The individual was apprehended on June 18 in the 3200 block of Arens Road in Regina.
During the arrest, officers reportedly discovered a loaded nine-millimetre handgun, brass knuckles, and a knife.
Following the arrest, officers executed search warrants at a residence and two vehicles associated with the suspect. Approximately half a kilogram of fentanyl, around 4.2 kilograms of methamphetamine, and a small quantity of cocaine were found during the searches.
The estimated street value of the seized drugs is approximately $115,000.
Alongside the drugs, several firearms and a substantial cache of ammunition were seized.
Among the recovered weapons, officers found:
Investigators also gathered thousands of rounds of ammunition during the operation.
Several firearms were allegedly modified, resulting in further charges related to tampering with serial numbers and unsafe handling of firearms.
The police also reported seizing body armor, tactical equipment, and additional bladed weapons during their searches.
Consequently, the Regina suspect faces 28 charges connected to firearm possession, drug trafficking, and modifications of prohibited weapons.
Regina Police Superintendent Kelly Trihart emphasized the importance of removing illegal drugs and firearms from circulation for enhancing public safety and reducing community risks.
The scope of the investigation extended to Saskatoon, leading to the execution of another search warrant at a residence on 5th Avenue North.
This search resulted in the seizure of over $31,000 in Canadian currency, a 2016 Ford F-150 truck, drug paraphernalia, and a mobile device.
A 32-year-old man from Saskatoon has been charged with possessing property obtained through crime over $5,000 and trafficking controlled substances.
In total, the two men are facing 30 criminal charges.
This seizure underscores ongoing worries regarding fentanyl trafficking issues in Saskatchewan and Canada. Public health officials alert that fentanyl is among the most perilous illicit drugs due to its potency and association with overdose deaths.
Law enforcement is stepping up efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and deter illegal firearm possession linked to organized crime.
The two suspects are slated to appear in court to face the charges. Investigators will continue examining evidence collected from the searches to identify any additional suspects or criminal connections.
Police officials underscore the importance of collaborative investigations between law enforcement agencies in Regina and Saskatoon. As court proceedings unfold, the focus will remain on diminishing drug trafficking and eliminating illegal firearms from Saskatchewan.
Officers seized drugs valued at around $115,000.
The search yielded fentanyl, methamphetamine, and a minor amount of cocaine.
The police recovered handguns, semi-automatic rifles, a shotgun, and a large number of ammunition rounds.
More than $31,000 in cash was taken during a related search in Saskatoon.
Two men from Regina and Saskatoon now face a total of 30 criminal charges.
The accused are scheduled to appear in court while investigations continue to scrutinize evidence linked to this case.
