The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has finalized a significant range of infrastructure and mobility projects in Al Quoz Creative Zone, marking a pivotal shift towards establishing this locale as one of the most extensive integrated creative districts globally.
These initiatives, aligned with the broader master plan for the zone, aim to boost connectivity, enhance transport integration, and promote Dubai’s goal of fostering a pedestrian-friendly and sustainable urban landscape. Al Quoz Creative Zone is envisioned as a pioneering hub for creatives, entrepreneurs, and investors, offering a comprehensive ecosystem that nurtures all facets of the creative process—from design and production to exhibition and marketing.
This area is also set to feature affordable live-work spaces, high-quality public areas, and designated venues for artistic and cultural events, further solidifying its role as a year-round destination for cultural, educational, and recreational opportunities.
New Bridge, Mobility Hubs, and 4km of Walking and Cycling Routes
One of RTA’s significant achievements includes the construction of a new pedestrian and cycling bridge on Al Manara Street. This structure is tailored to enhance safety and ensure smooth passage for pedestrians and cyclists, while seamlessly integrating into the area’s architectural character.
The bridge stretches 45 meters long, is 5.5 meters wide, and towers at 6 meters high, complete with two 210-meter access ramps for full accessibility.
Furthermore, RTA has established three new mobility hubs and developed four kilometers of pedestrian, cycling, and individual mobility paths, connecting Al Quoz Creative Zone with Onpassive Metro Station and Al Quoz Bus Station, simplifying movement for visitors, residents, and workers.
Super Blocks Project to Create Cultural Zones
The RTA has also set the groundwork for launching the Super Blocks project within Al Quoz Creative Zone as part of Dubai’s grander initiative to expand pedestrian pathways throughout the emirate.
This project creates adaptable urban spaces suitable for art events and cultural festivals by temporarily closing selected streets, transforming them into pedestrian-only areas. A premiere event benefiting from this scheme is the Al Quoz Arts Festival, scheduled for January 24 and 25 and organized by Alserkal Avenue alongside Dubai Culture.
The Super Blocks initiative aligns with Dubai’s Year of the Family, the Dubai Social Agenda 33, and the Dubai Urban Plan 2040 by enhancing social connections, elevating quality of life, and crafting dynamic, community-centered public spaces.
Moreover, it promotes the 20-Minute City concept, encouraging the use of walking, cycling, and other eco-friendly transport modes, contributing to a greener and healthier urban environment.
RTA: Advancing an Integrated Transport Network
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, remarked that the project completions underscore RTA’s dedication to establishing a cohesive transport framework that minimizes reliance on private vehicles and improves urban mobility.
He emphasized that connecting Al Quoz Creative Zone to metro and bus stations while developing a thorough network of pedestrian and cycling paths forms part of RTA’s wider objective to implement people-oriented mobility solutions in Dubai.
Al Tayer noted that the new pedestrian and cycling bridge on Al Manara Street enhances safety and traffic flow while emphasizing the importance of sustainable transport. The mobility hubs and interconnected pathways are pivotal in fostering a connected urban environment that encourages walking and community interaction.
Dubai Culture: A Beacon for the Creative Economy
Her Excellency Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, stated that Al Quoz Creative Zone reflects Dubai’s ambition to leverage culture as a catalyst for economic advancement and to enhance the emirate’s standing as a global center for creativity and talent.
She clarified that this zone offers a holistic setting for creatives, entrepreneurs, and investors, while the new transport and mobility initiatives will further enhance its appeal and accessibility.
Dubai Culture will continue to energize the area with cultural programs and initiatives that champion innovators and showcase opportunities in the creative sectors.
A District Poised for Significant Expansion
According to the master plan, Al Quoz Creative Zone is projected to experience a remarkable growth, with the number of creatives soaring from 900 to 20,000, alongside facilities for 8,000 residents and an influx of approximately 33,000 daily visitors.
This blueprint also encompasses a tenfold increase in studio and workshop spaces, a threefold expansion in leisure facilities, and a 30% growth in leasable areas. Once fully realized, Al Quoz Creative Zone is anticipated to emerge as one of the most extensive creative districts in the world in terms of physical area and the number of practitioners.
Affordable Housing and a Unique Urban Identity
A new planning framework is set in place to cultivate integrated live-work environments, featuring 2,900 affordable housing units tailored for creatives. The emphasis remains on public spaces suitable for exhibitions, performances, and cultural events.
Streets will be revamped into shaded walkways, complemented by public plazas and communal spaces designated for social engagement and art showcases. The district will also incorporate sculptures, murals, and art trails while preserving Al Quoz’s industrial charm through the adaptive reuse of existing warehouses for creative applications.
With this new transport infrastructure operational, Al Quoz Creative Zone is set to become one of Dubai’s most accessible, walkable, and culturally vibrant areas—positioning itself as a significant global hub for the creative economy.
