Controversy Forces Sarah Ferguson to Withdraw Children's Book

Controversy Forces Sarah Ferguson to Withdraw Children's Book

Post by : Meena Ariff

The anticipated children’s book by Sarah Ferguson, titled Flora And Fern: Kindness Along The Way, has been pulled from sale following consistent delays, as revealed by industry analytics data. Initially set for a 9 October release, the publication had a revised date of 20 November on Amazon but has since been completely removed from the platform.

The book has officially been labeled as “withdrawn from sale” at the publisher’s request. Representatives for Ferguson opted not to comment, and New Frontier Publishing has not responded to repeated inquiries for clarification.

This withdrawal hits at a challenging time for Ferguson, who lost her duchess title when her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, abdicated his Duke of York title due to ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has also forfeited his prince title.

Booksellers indicated last month that the release date for Flora And Fern had been postponed without providing a new one, and no further updates have emerged.

While no formal reasoning has been disclosed for the withdrawal, industry experts speculate that it is directly linked to ongoing controversies surrounding Ferguson. A publishing analyst stated that the decision is “commercially sensible,” noting that launching a book associated with Ferguson under current circumstances would be “ill-timed.” The publisher could defer the release for several months, as the content is not urgent and can be delayed without financial repercussions.

Questions have also arisen regarding Ferguson’s relationships with her other publishers. A significant publishing house that previously released her works declined to confirm whether it will maintain its connection with her, though it acknowledged that her earlier titles are still in print.

Reports indicate that Ferguson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor are expected to vacate the Windsor Royal Lodge. While Andrew may relocate to the King’s Sandringham estate in Norfolk, Ferguson’s next address remains uncertain. Some sources suggest a possible move to Portugal to be with her daughter, Princess Eugenie, although her team has not verified this.

Additionally, Ferguson has faced renewed scrutiny over her past links to Epstein. In September, numerous charities severed ties with her following the emergence of a 2011 email in which she referred to Epstein as her “supreme friend” and appeared to express regret about criticizing him publicly.

Despite the increasing difficulties, Ferguson remains active in various business pursuits and maintains an extensive publishing portfolio, which includes children's books, non-fiction on Queen Victoria, and her memoirs.
