In an impressive start to the sixth Islamic Solidarity Games held in Riyadh, the Saudi handball team delivered a commanding performance, defeating Iraq with a score of 33–21 in their initial Group B match. Conducted at the renowned Prince Faisal bin Fahad Olympic Complex, this victory kickstarts the Saudi team’s campaign and uplifts the spirits heading into the tournament. Throughout the match, the team exhibited exceptional skill, solid teamwork, and effective game control.
The match, held at one of Riyadh’s premier sports venues, featured a lively and competitive atmosphere, with both teams showing resilience, particularly in the opening half. Gradually, Saudi Arabia asserted dominance with robust defense and precise scoring. By the second half, they extended their lead decisively, leaving Iraq with no chance to recover. The final outcome of 33–21 exemplified Saudi Arabia’s prowess and discipline on the court.
With this successful opening game behind them, the Saudi handball team turns its focus to their next match against Bahrain today. Known for their strong and seasoned handball capabilities, Bahrain poses a significant challenge, making this upcoming game crucial. The Saudi contingent is eager to maintain their winning streak and press on toward the knockout stages of the tournament. Coaches and players are dedicatedly preparing for another competitive encounter.
In addition to the handball action, the Saudi duathlon team participated in events at the Islamic Solidarity Games, with athlete Karmah Al-Jaroudi competing in the Duathlon “Sprint” category. This event took place at Al-Rimal Park in Janadriyah, featuring running and cycling segments. Despite intense competition, Karmah secured 13th place with a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 20 seconds.
The sprint duathlon demands exceptional endurance, speed, and tenacity. Karmah displayed remarkable determination, maintaining a steady pace during both the running and cycling portions. Her participation underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing women's sports and highlights the nation’s support for female athletes on the global stage. This experience is a stepping stone for future competitions.
Continuing today in the duathlon competitions, Saudi athlete Abdulrahman Al-Ghamdi will compete in the men’s 27.5 km event, a test of both strength and endurance. Al-Ghamdi is determined to deliver a strong performance, aimed at uplifting Saudi Arabia’s position in endurance sports. The team hopes his participation will yield positive results, showcasing the development of Saudi athletes in challenging events.
