Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, has recently signed a decree establishing the “Wadi Al Qarha” Nature Reserve. This initiative is intended to conserve the region's stunning landscape and wildlife.
The decree delineates the boundaries of the reserve in accordance with an official map. It lays down stringent regulations aimed at preventing activities detrimental to the ecosystem and its inhabitants.
Specific actions are outright banned within the reserve, including hunting or harming animals unless explicitly permitted by environmental regulations. Furthermore, introducing non-native species is prohibited.
Destruction of natural habitats, geological features, or breeding grounds of fauna and flora is not acceptable. Pollution in any form—air, water, or soil—is forbidden within the reserve's limits. Military activities, like shooting drills, are also off-limits.
The decree prohibits deforestation, soil degradation, and recreational activities that could negatively impact wildlife. Any form of construction, road construction, or vehicle deployment, as well as agricultural, commercial, or industrial endeavors, require special authorization from the appropriate authorities.
The law mandates maintaining the area’s natural equilibrium. The zones surrounding the reserve are similarly protected; any undertakings that could influence the environmental conditions there necessitate official consent.
This legislation builds upon Federal Law No. 24 of 1999, which supports the preservation of all living entities, including the fauna and flora that use the reserve as a habitat.
Management of the reserve will be overseen by relevant authorities, which will work in tandem with local municipal agencies and Sharjah Police to uphold these regulations and address any violations.
Penalties will be enforced against those who breach these rules, requiring them to remedy any environmental damage incurred.
This initiative exemplifies Sharjah’s dedication to conserving its natural environment and ensuring the sustainability of biodiversity for times to come.
