Sheikh Sultan of Sharjah Unveils New Quran Encyclopedias and Honors 311 Graduates

Post by : Badri Ariffin

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, presided over the graduation ceremony for the sixth cohort of certified reciters from the Holy Quran Academy. The event took place at the University City Hall in Sharjah, where a total of 311 graduates received their Quranic certifications.

During the ceremony, Sheikh Sultan announced the successful completion of the extensive “Rhetorical Interpretation” encyclopedia, a significant Quranic initiative encompassing 68 volumes. This ambitious project spanned four years and aims to provide deep rhetorical insights into the Holy Quran.

In addition, the Ruler of Sharjah launched three new Quranic encyclopedia projects, including the “Quranic Word” encyclopedia, which explores each word of the Holy Quran with a focus on its meaning, linguistic features, derivation, and context.

Sheikh Sultan also signed the first editions of two new encyclopedias that outline Quranic reading methodologies. These include a comprehensive examination of the reading of Asim al-Kufi alongside selected narrations, documented in 22 volumes, as well as the Ibn Kathir encyclopedia, which spans 17 volumes. Both projects will feature narration charts and explanatory texts crafted by 63 scholars.

In his address, Sheikh Sultan expressed his satisfaction with the completion of these vital encyclopedic projects and commended Sharjah's institutions for their unwavering support of science, education, and Islamic studies over the past 50 years.

He also announced plans for the establishment of “Dar Al-Hadith” within Sharjah University City, a new center dedicated to Hadith studies. This institution will offer specialized certificates in Hadith sciences, working alongside the Holy Quran Academy and Al Qasimia University.

Sheikh Sultan reiterated Sharjah's commitment to enriching Arabic language studies, Quranic sciences, and Islamic education through enhanced educational institutions designed with robust scientific and cultural foundations.

He emphasized the emirate's role in fostering Arabic language and Quranic education in Africa, mentioning that numerous African students attend Al Qasimia University and later set up Quranic learning centers back in their home countries.

Dr. Khalifa Musbah Al Tunaiji, Chairman of the Holy Quran Academy, expressed gratitude to Sheikh Sultan for his ongoing support of Quranic education and scientific initiatives.

He revealed that the Academy is formulating a new strategy focusing on the years 2027-2029, aimed at digitizing Quranic educational resources for wider accessibility via interactive platforms for students and researchers across the globe.

Al Tunaiji noted the success of the Sharjah Global Electronic Quran Recitation Centre through the “Thamarah al-Thamarah” initiative, which has expanded to six continents and 51 countries, benefiting countless students in Quranic studies.

The Academy also initiated the Citizen Reciter Project in partnership with various Islamic organizations in Sharjah to support and train Emirati Quran memorizers and reciters.

Attendees at the ceremony were treated to a documentary showcasing the “Thamarah al-Thamarah” project, which trains graduates to become Quran instructors and reciters globally.

Dr. Muhammad Safi Al-Mustaghani, Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah, elaborated on the significance of the “Rhetorical Interpretation” encyclopedia, which involved 68 scholars focusing on elucidating the rhetorical meanings, structures, and linguistic beauty found in Quranic verses.

As the ceremony concluded, Sheikh Sultan took commemorative photographs with scholars and contributors to the Academy’s scientific projects while the graduates proudly received their Quranic certificates in front of esteemed officials, scholars, and researchers.
