Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture, attended the graduation event for the American University in Dubai (AUD), celebrating its 29th class and reinforcing the institution’s standing as a pillar of academic excellence in the region.
The occasion honored 445 graduates representing 57 nations, showcasing AUD’s vibrant international community and commitment to higher education in Dubai.
The event commenced with national anthems from the UAE and the USA as Sheikha Latifa arrived.
Elias N. Bou Saab, the Executive Vice President of AUD, welcomed Her Highness, expressing gratitude for her presence.
During his address, Bou Saab acknowledged the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.
He remarked, “Their vision exemplifies the power of courage, determination, and actionable insights.”
Reflecting on the university’s inception in 1995, Bou Saab stated it was born from Dubai’s transformative vision and Sheikh Mohammed’s dedication to empowering youth.
He encouraged graduates by saying, “Don’t wait for the future; create it. The future belongs to those who envision, design, and realize it. This is the narrative of both Dubai and AUD.”
He highlighted the significance of the Dubai Future Foundation in fostering innovation and forward-thinking through initiatives like the Dubai Future Forum.
Mentioning the new initiative, 'Dubai-it', Bou Saab explained how it aims to convert ideas into businesses and research into innovation, driving transformative impacts.
In closing his speech to the Class of 2026, he reiterated, “You’re not just ready for the future; you are poised to shape it. Let’s Future It and Dubai It together!”
Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, delivered a keynote address, encouraging graduates to cherish human connection and embrace responsibility.
He commended AUD for nurturing leaders who have significantly contributed to Dubai's development and reminded the Class of 2026 of their role in carrying this legacy forward.
The ceremony featured Her Highness Sheikha Latifa presenting awards to outstanding graduates, celebrating their remarkable academic accomplishments.
She then joined graduates for an official group photo before the formal awarding of degrees by the commencement speaker and the university’s senior leadership.
The celebratory atmosphere peaked with a vibrant fireworks display marking the graduation festivities.
Dr. Kyle Long, President of AUD, encouraged graduates to maintain their capacity for independent thought amidst the advancing technology landscape.
He emphasized that while technology aids in various tasks, it’s essential for graduates to retain their critical thinking skills, creativity, and independent decision-making.
Dr. Long affirmed that an AUD education empowers students with the capabilities to integrate knowledge across disciplines and adapt effectively to change.
Valedictorian Alice Zanini, who graduated summa cum laude in Business Administration with a Finance major, spoke about the enriching diversity at AUD.
She highlighted the valuable experiences of learning alongside peers from various cultures and backgrounds, noting these as one of the university’s core strengths.
Zanini also reflected on the resilience shown by her generation, having navigated education through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and regional tensions.
The graduation concluded with a traditional academic recessional, officially integrating the Class of 2026 into AUD's expansive global alumni network, which proudly comprises 10,000 graduates.
