The crew of Mirzapur: The Film recently completed its Varanasi shooting, now heading to Jaisalmer for the next filming phase, which will extend into mid-December. Actor Shweta Tripathi has shared her thoughts about reprising her iconic role as Golu Gupta, reflecting on her long-standing connection with the character.
Shweta articulated her feelings about returning to the set as an emotional reunion with Golu, a character she has embodied for almost a decade. The process of revisiting her persona during the look test felt reassuring and nostalgic, emphasizing the unique bond she has cultivated over the years. The familiar tastes of Varanasi chaat and revisiting beloved shooting spots enhanced this sense of belonging.
Varanasi holds a deeply personal significance for Shweta Tripathi, as her breakthrough film, Masaan (2015), was shot there, paving the way for her initial artistic endeavors. She perceives returning to this city for another major project as a stroke of destiny. Reflecting upon her childhood, Shweta mentioned that her maternal grandfather studied in Varanasi, instilling a strong emotional and cultural connection with the city long before her fame. She expressed that her visits to Varanasi are imbued with spiritual solace and connection.
With excitement brewing as Mirzapur transitions to the big screen, the atmosphere among the cast and crew combines nerves with enthusiasm. Shweta described this evolution as a “new chapter” for everyone, noting that the hope for the film’s success is rooted in a collective commitment to storytelling and camaraderie that has characterized the Mirzapur family. She emphasized the strength derived from the support cast members provide one another.
